A well-restored former coaching inn in Alresford’s Georgian main street, where Hampshire real ales hold their own against contenders from Cornwall and Devon, and 18 wines are available by the glass. The bar dining area and candlelit restaurant offer grilled lamb and chicken skewers; and prawn cocktail to start; steak and kidney pie, mash, and greens; and pea and mint risotto. There’s a good value two-course menu available at various times during the week. Station Road, opposite the inn, leads to the famous Watercress Line railway.
