The Welsh painter Augustus John lived in Fordingbridge for some years until his death in 1961; he was a regular when the pub served the now long-vanished, adjacent railway station. Today, under landlord Bryan Greenwood, Ringwood and guest real ales continue to attract locals and visitors. So too do such characteristic dishes as Serrano ham with rocket and sun blushed tomato salad; fillet of seabass, tenderstem broccoli, potato gnocchi, prawn and tarragon sauce; and honey and soy glazed pork ribs with coleslaw and sweet potato fries.
