Hefty local stones were used to build this early 19th-century pub, part of a row of cottages facing the main square of Wales' first planned town. Customers can thank these stones for the snugness of the interior, not least the bar, which offers a really good choice of Welsh real ales (mostly from local microbreweries) and ciders. Home-made food is fresh, locally sourced and seasonal, with Welsh lamb and beef dishes held in particularly high regard. You'll also find authentic curries, steak and ale pie, fresh fish, scampi and vegetarian dishes, such as roast vegetable lasagne, and daily specials.
