This popular waterside inn has been serving travellers and locals since 1870 and offers spectacular views over the mountain-backed tidal Dyfi Estuary, a nature reserve rich in birdlife. Aberdyfi is a charming little resort with a championship golf course, and sandy beach and harbour, making it a favourite with golfers and watersports enthusiasts; the Penhelig Arms is also perfectly situated for visitors to Cader Idris, the Snowdonia National Park and several historic castles in the area. Music and TV-free, the wood-panelled and log-fire-warmed Fisherman’s Bar is a cosy and friendly bolt-hole to enjoy Brains real ales and bar meals such as gourmet burgers and bloomer sandwiches. The waterfront restaurant offers a more brasserie-style experience with views over the estuary and menus showcasing the abundant Welsh seafood (a Penhelig speciality) and Welsh beef and lamb. The kitchen team emphasises the freshness of ingredients and fuse local and cosmopolitan influences in a style of cooking that allows natural flavours to shine through. The short wine list is attractively priced and complements the excellent food. In warmer weather, you can sit outside on the sea wall terrace.
