Known as The White House for over 100 years, this 17th-century coaching house is on the Pennine Way, 1,300 feet above sea level – it has panoramic views of the moors and Hollingworth Lake far below. Not surprising then, that it attracts walkers and cyclists who rest up and sup on Black Sheep and Theakston Best Bitter. A simple menu of pub grub ranges from sandwiches and salads, to grills, international and vegetarian dishes, and traditional mains such as home-made steak and kidney pie, and haddock and prawn Mornay.
