Overlooking the green, The Swan is clearly the village focal point. Ivy covers the external walls, while those in the stone-floored bar and restaurant are painted white, soft grey-blue or left unrendered. A good real ale line-up includes North Cotswold Brewery’s Shagweaver and The Village Tipple, with 15 wines by the glass. Owner Jerry Hibbert's close links with local food producers underlines his ethos of ‘home grown, home made and produce driven’. Try a glass of blood orange and rose geranium fizz while deciding which of the tempting dishes appeals most. Perhaps it’ll will be oxtail ravioli and rosemary butter; or Matt’s Scotch egg to start; then slow-cooked Southrop Manor Estate lamb shoulder shepherd’s pie’ with buttered kale; Cornish hake fillet, pelourde clams, monk’s beard and Noilly Prat; or charred rosemary polenta, salt-baked vegetables, garlic and capers. Don’t overlook the desserts though, rhubarb and almond puff pastry tart with clotted cream; or lemon meringue pie with candied peel perhaps.
