On the outskirts of Bristol, parts of this former coaching inn date back to the 16th century and its hilltop position offers views of the Bristol Channel. Head chef Ross Hunter champions local produce and keeps things interesting with Monday Pie Nights, Tuesday Pizza Nights and on Thursdays it’s Fish and Fizz. The daily menu might offer ham hock, mustard and prune terrine; chicken and chorizo burgers; cider and tarragon braised chicken; pan-fried lamb’s liver with bubble-and-squeak cake; and rabbit pot pie. For dessert there could be Bakewell tart; double chocolate brownie or even, a beetroot parfait. The pub holds a beer and cider festival in July.
