An enormous 'walk-around' open log fire greets visitors to this thriving place. Its high exposed beams date from the 16th century, when it was the stable-block and grooms’ cottages for the neighbouring priory. Local microbreweries, typically Uley and Cotswold Lion, supply the real ales; a white wine and a sparkling rosé come from a vineyard in Malmesbury; and damson brandy, sloe gin and quince liqueur are made on the banks of the River Severn.
