Tucked away in glorious Cider with Rosie country, and convenient for the Cotswold market towns of Stroud and Cirencester, this beautiful 18th-century inn was once the village butchers and abattoir. Thick stone walls and solid oak beamed ceilings add to the timeless country home feel, as do farmhouse kitchen tables and three real ales including Wadworth 6X. Surrounded by excellent walks, lunchtime meals of ploughman’s salad and steak sandwiches keep welly-wearing visitors happy, with cottage pie; moules frites; and pan-fried duck breast with caramelised onion and thyme mash, red cabbage and plum sauce also on offer.
