Near the Cotswold Way and the Benedictine Prinknash Abbey, in a small village surrounded by woodland and commons, this inn is popular with walkers, the cricket team and visiting Morris dancers. The new owners serve traditional pub food such as steak and ale pie with chips and peas; grilled salmon with hollandaise sauce and jacket potato; and chicken casserole with roast potatoes and vegetables. Among the real ales are Stroud Tom Long, Wye Valley Bitter and Wickwar BOB, and there are real ciders too in the cosy, open-fire-warmed bar. The lunchtime bar menu offers sandwiches, jacket potatoes, ploughman’s and pasties
