Just before a tree-lined stream called Oldbury Pill enters the Severn Estuary is the stone-built Anchor, its more recent near-500-year-old history recalled in old photos and fishing and farming bric à brac. The bar line-up includes guest real ales, Ashton ciders, perries and 16 wines by the glass. Doors from the light, bright dining room lead out to a beautiful garden. On the good-value bar and main menu are baked lasagne; Kashmiri lamb curry; Spanish fish stew; chicken and ham pie and butternut squash, red onion and cranberry tagine.
