This pretty Grade II listed building dates from 1527 and has the heavily carved beams and inglenook fireplaces to prove it. The traditional bar, which sells Shepherd Neame’s real ales plus guest and seasonal brews, has no TV or games machines. As well as a range of real ales on tap, there is an extensive menu of home-cooked food. Warm pigeon salad might be followed by ox cheek, creamed chive potato, button mushrooms and baby onions. A large garden and courtyard make for popular alfresco options in the summer.
