The Dolphin was originally four cottages dating from the 16th-century, one of which was an alehouse, that over time have become a single attractive building. Midway between Braintree and Colchester, The Dolphin makes a great refreshment stop, serving food and drink all day every day. Greene King ales, Aspall’s cider, popular home-cooked pub fare, warming log fires and friendly staff are all attributes here. Children have their own menu, washed down with unlimited squash. On the à la carte menu, pan-fried lamb's liver and bacon is served on a bed of mashed potato with gravy, and locally-sourced beef is grilled to your liking. Look to the specials list for the likes of twice-roasted pork belly, Bramley apple and ham mash with wholegrain mustard sauce.
