From opening in 2013 to becoming an award-winning pub by 2015 is pretty good going, yet the team behind award-winning Edinburgh restaurants, The Kitchin and Castle Terrace have achieved just this for The Scran & Scallie. The name means ‘food and scallywag’, by the way. Many of the building's original features have been blended with trendy Scandinavian influences, distressed and reclaimed furnishings, Isle of Bute fabrics and wallpapers by Glasgow designers Timorous Beasties. 'Oor menu' of contemporary seasonal dishes and regional classics embraces mussels, seaweed and garlic butter; roasted hake, curried cauliflower and apple; bavette steak au poivre and chips; and spelt and lentil burger. 'Oor puddins & swally' pairs food and drink as, for example, an espresso pannacotta and hazelnut biscotti with Fettercairn Fior malt. Open all week for lunch, bar ‘scran’ and dinner (with helpful, very late closing times), as well as weekend brunches.
