An attractive pub built in the early 1800s that includes among its famous visitors Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and President John F Kennedy. Although it is owned by Kent brewer Shepherd Neame, Harvey's of Lewes also gets a look in on the bar. A full menu is served in the conservatory dining room and on the patio, while a more limited selection applies at tables in the extensive gardens. Typical dishes are beer-battered cod and chips with mushy peas; steak burger with Emmental cheese, chunky chips and chef's burger relish; and risotto of butternut squash with fresh sage and goats' cheese.
