Popular local with picnic benches and ghostly legends

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

The Black Duck was so named by owners Gary and Nicola Kinnell a few years ago, to commemorate all those poor birds used as chimney sweeps in medieval times. The pub’s exterior belies its venerable age, confirmed inside by scrubbed beams, timber framing and an inglenook fireplace and bread oven at the heart of the building. A huge cellar keeps Harvey's beers in tip-top condition. The menu proposing popular pub fare is backed by a dozen specials every day, including several vegetarian options. The rear beer garden with picnic benches enjoys lovely views over rolling downland.
