AA Pick of the Pubs
This cute looking, pantiled former coaching inn dates from the 17th century. First and foremost, it's a friendly pub where it's perfectly okay to grab just a sandwich and a pint – try Two Chefs, the house beer – or settle in for a full-blown meal in the restaurant or garden-facing conservatory. Co-owner and chef James Mackenzie's seasonal modern British menus, including vegetarian, offer salt beef hash cake with Yorkshire rhubarb ketchup and fried quail egg; Barnsley lamb chop and belly boulangère with devilled kidneys and Chantenay carrots; and braised onion with wild mushrooms and mature cheddar rarebit, baby leeks and hazelnuts. Three new bedrooms have been added, making five in all.
