Community-owned inn in pretty Wolds village

This ancient pub stands opposite the church in a village at the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. With open fires, log-burners, rustic decor and quirky artefacts to take the eye, it's a champion of local suppliers, with beers from microbreweries and cider from the village; indeed, they have a cider festival here every year. The frequently-changing menu draws on Wolds producers where possible; perhaps a wild mushroom and asparagus bruschetta to start, followed by oven-baked monkfish wrapped in bacon served with a tarragon and Pernod cream sauce, new potatoes and salad.
