In the 17th century this inn served a ferry that crossed the Rivers Ouse and Derwent. Nowadays this family-run village pub is a place that appeals to all tastes; from the beamed bar through a bright, modern lounge to the cosy, intimate restaurant. Several members of the family are trained chefs and make the most of Yorkshire’s burgeoning larder; braised beef with clementines and ginger wine, herb cobbler and mash is just one of the tempting mains here. Their innovative Yorkshire tapas menu features haddock goujons, confit lamb croquettes, and baked mussels. There are great open sandwiches and a take-away deli menu (including ice creams), too.
