This traditional country inn is in the heart of the Machars peninsula, just down the road is Wigtown, home to some 20 bookshops. At lunchtime there are sandwiches and filled baked potatoes, while starters include haggis fritters; duck and orange pâté; and garlic mushrooms. Traditional pub favourites make up the mains’ choices – home-made chicken curry; pork and leek sausages with mash and honey-roast vegetables; beer-battered fish, pea purée and fries; and macaroni cheese. A carvery is available on Sundays.
