This 18th-century pub and restaurant is run by French-trained chef Mark Ramsden and his wife Lisa. The stunning interior features antique furniture, sandstone and oak floors and a glass-covered well. Its patio overlooks the River Piddle, or Puddle, as prim Victorians preferred to call it. Mark uses the best local produce for dishes such as curried parsnip soup; pan-fried chicken livers with thyme, brioche and port reduction; steak, ale and mushroom pot pie; salmon fillet with potato and spinach hash; Black Forest sundae; and warm Dorset apple cake and vanilla custard.
