In the past, the pretty village of Cerne Abbas was famous for brewing – at one time there were 16 pubs here – and one that remains is this beautifully restored 16th-century coaching inn. There’s a mix of contemporary dishes and pub classics on offer, and weekdays are dominated by themed nights, from burgers and tapas to steak and fish. The owners have a background in wine so expect a superb list alongside local Palmers ales.
