On the A350, between Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum is The Fontmell, a stylish and comfortable country pub, complete with a stream flowing between the bar and the dining room. Linger over a pint of one of the weekly changing guest ales at the bar, or curl up on the sofa and peruse the newspapers. Most visitors and guests cannot resist chef Tom Shaw’s frequently changing menus which feature flavour-packed meals such as roasted butternut squash with goats curd, honey and pickled golden raisins; followed by pan-fried hake with Galician stew, and River Fowey mussels; and finishing with sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. From Monday to Thursday a set menu is available at lunchtime.
