The Railway dates back to 1869, when it was built as a cider house for thirsty GWR workers. Melanie and Jean Sancey offer their visitors a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Whether it’s in the bar with its cosy log-burner and range of real ales, or in the restaurant, the appealing menu offers plenty of choice including meze and gourmet pizzas; there is an emphasis on quality local ingredients. A typical starter of chicken liver parfait with blood orange, ginger bread and watercress might be followed by hake and mussels with leek, pancetta, parsley and new potatoes.
