The Five Bells Inn

At a glance

Bar menu
Beer festival
Open all year
Dog friendly
Free Wi-Fi

The pub and the church were neighbours until early last century, when the rector's objections forced the inn to move into this old thatched farmhouse, its new name intended as a raspberry to the rector. Otter and Butcombe real ales hold sway in the bar – note the original counter. Exposed brick and cream-papered walls are adorned with signed Exeter Chiefs rugby shirts, and there's a German-style ‘stammtisch’, or regulars' table. Simple pub food includes home-made Scotch duck egg; home-cured wild Escot venison; lightly curried Skrei cod fillet; and River Exe mussels in Berry Farm cider. The inn is very child friendly. The beer festival is held during the second week of August.
