Set in a delightful village opposite the 13th-century St Matthew’s church and in the heart of the rolling Devon countryside, the 400-year-old Butterleigh is a traditional free house. There is a mass of local memorabilia throughout this friendly local, where customers can choose from a selection of changing real ales including Dartmoor Jail Ale, ciders including Devon Scrumpy from Sandford Orchards, and around 15 malt whiskies. Expect home-made dishes such as chicken supreme with Devon cider, mushroom and cream sauce; home-made burger; steak and ale pie; fish specials; and curry of the week. On fine days, the garden is very popular.
