Popular Exmoor hideaway

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

Standing alongside the East Lyn River in the tucked-away Brendon Valley, this traditional 17th-century free house stands at the heart of Exmoor and is handy for several walking routes. Thatchers ciders complement local cask ales such as Barn Owl and Devon Darter, and there’s a choice of good home-made pub meals. Venison casserole cooked with shallots, chantenay carrots and port; wild mushroom and leek crumble; and steak and Devon Blue shortcrust pie are typical menu choices; the specials board changes daily. Eat in the garden in warm weather, or head inside to the open fire when the weather changes.
