Over a thousand years of history are packed into the rough stone walls and thatched roof of this heritage gem of a pub, right down to the medieval masons’ marks still visible above the bar. Find a seat on the terrace beneath mature trees for views over the Teign Valley. You can eat in either the bar, where Teignworthy is one of the local brewery’s showcased, or the popular Vanilla Pod restaurant, where food with an excellent local pedigree and seasonal flavours delights locals and visitors alike. Start with Tregida smoked salmon and pickled beetroot, or River Teign mussels poached in dry white wine, garlic, onion, tarragon and cream; follow with rabbit pie; honey-baked ham with free-range eggs and chunky chips; or classic chilli con carne with basmati and coriander rice. Home-made desserts include raspberry marshmallow cheesecake or steamed lemon and golden syrup sponge pudding with crème anglaise.
