In the lovely village of Bonsall – said to be Europe’s UFO capital – this intimate, former lead miner’s cottage is famous for hosting the World Championship Hen Races. But it’s not just known for its fast fowl, as their bank holiday beer and ciders prove. The pub now has its own on-site Chickenfoot Brewery to supply the bar with its own ales. The simple menu is all about no frills, home-cooked pub grub, such as gammon, egg, pineapple and chips; steak, ale and Stilton pie; lasagne; and spinach, sweet potato and chickpea curry.
