Convivial village pub deep in the pretty Eden Valley

AA Pick of the Pubs
On an old drove road, this 300-year-old country inn recalls the long-vanished days when hardy Highland cattle were driven across open water from Scotland's Western Isles to markets in England. A reputation for high-quality food might suggest it's a destination pub, but it's more than that, because locals love it. The attractive brick and timber bar is furnished with old tables and settles; the more formal dining takes place upstairs in the hunting lodge-style restaurant.
