Perhaps the oldest inn in the Lake District, there’s a hospitable welcome here at The Farmers, whether in the traditionally decorated restaurant with its oak beams and impressive views of the Crake Valley or in the 14th-century stable bar complete with a log fire and original slate floors. The wide-ranging menus include meat or seafood deli boards for sharing; slow-cooked belly pork with black pudding, local sausage, buttered and gravy; piri piri chicken with feta, coriander and sweet potato mash; and Cumbrian mature cheese, broccoli and leek pie. Local ales include Hawkshead Bitter and there’s both beer and cider festivals annually.
