More than 400 years old, The Eagles Head occupies a lovely spot in the tiny village of Satterthwaite in the Grizedale Forest. A traditional, family-run Cumbrian inn with a crackling log fire in winter and pretty beer garden for sunnier days, the pub has a good reputation for serving tip-top quality beers from local microbreweries such as Hawkshead and Barngates. Local meat and vegetables, as well as fish from the east coast appear in straightforward, enjoyable dishes. Whole Lakeland trout with new potatoes and salad; and Cumberland sausage, mash and onion gravy are typical main courses.
