Some years ago, not wanting The Derby Arms to close, the village bought it, later selling the lease to the Ainscough pub and restaurant group. Now extensively restored, part is now a community-run shop. The bar maintains a good roster of local real ales and a wide choice of wines by the glass. Potted shrimps from Morecambe Bay only a few miles south might prove the perfect starter, then steak and ale shortcrust pastry pie, the meat coming from the pub's own organic herd; battered fillet of haddock; or wild mushroom risotto, ending with home-made apple crumble. Live music sessions are held at least once a month.
