It took six years of hard work, not to mention money, for Peter and Sheila Crosby to breathe new life into this once-derelict, but now fine-looking, 1910 pub. The bar's seven changing real ales are of considerable appeal; so too are its freshly prepared, locally sourced dishes, among which favourites are the black pudding and haggis medley starter, and main courses of Northumberland sirloin steak; chargrilled rump of Yorkshire lamb; and, for vegetarians, baked sweet bell peppers. On Tuesdays to Fridays there are Early Bird two-course specials.
