The Fox and Hounds

Picturesque village setting

At the heart of beautiful Teesdale and just a stone’s throw from the river’s wooded gorge, The Fox and Hounds is huddled above one of the village greens in pretty Cotherstone. Beams, open fires and thickly cushioned wall seats tempt you to linger at this 360-year-old coaching inn, admiring the local photographs and country pictures while you sip a pint of Black Sheep Best Bitter or Thatchers cider. From the menu, tuck into dishes made from the best of fresh, local ingredients: Cotherstone cheese-filled chicken baked in creamy leek sauce; gammon with tomato and cheese melt and salad; or steak, black pudding and Black Sheep ale pie, for example.
