This old stone inn stands on Mickleton's main street, surrounded by the heather-covered moors of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Candlelight and a log-burning stove illuminate the interior, lovingly maintained by the Rowbotham family. Enjoy a well-kept pint from breweries, such as Cumberland, Thwaites and Jennings. The menu might catch your eye with fresh brown shrimps, steamed samphire, spiced butter and warm toast; baked cheese and leek tart; roast chicken ballotine, new potatoes, braised lettuce and smoked bacon; twice-cooked Simpson’s Aberdeen Angus beef steak and chunky chips; and apple and blackberry crumble with fresh vanilla custard. The dog-friendly garden is a real treat.
