On the tourist route (A68) to Scotland, the Duke of York is a former drovers’ and coaching inn dating from 1749. It is appointed inside and out to a high standard, keeping the traditional country feel with contemporary touches. Look for Camerons Black Sheep to accompany the food served all day. There’s light bites, sandwiches and omelettes plus main menu choices such as the signature dish of chicken in creamy leek and pancetta sauce with crushed potatoes; or full rack of smokey BBQ baby ribs and hand-cut chips; or a range of steaks including sirloin, ribeye and fillet.
