Local rumour has it that the fireplace in the bar of this lovely old pub close to the King Harry Ferry was used to burn contraband when customs officers dropped by. Settle down in the cosy low-beamed bar and make your choices from a menu that uses seasonal ingredients sourced from local Cornish suppliers. Typical dishes are slow-braised lamb shank, onion potato cake, crispy kale with carrot and coriander purée; or wild mushroom risotto with leeks and garlic. Salads and sandwiches are also on offer. In summer, head for the suntrap walled garden or patio with a glass of St Austell Proper Job or Cornish Rattler cider.
