Once known as the Brook Arms after the local lords of the manor (who had a badger as part of their crest), this brick-built late 18th-century inn is popular with walkers and boaters from the nearby Shropshire Union Canal. Local ales from Weetwood and Tatton breweries keep the drinkers happy, with diners lured in by platters, salads, steaks and main courses such as home-made pie of the day, seasonal greens, and a choice of mash or chips; pea, asparagus and rocket risotto. Look out for the June beer festival on Fathers’ Day weekend.
