Set in a former coaching inn once used by Lord Nelson on his journey to meet the fleet at Pembroke, The Castle is well positioned for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park. Family-run by chefs, it’s no surprise that food is top of the agenda, with everything cooked from scratch using local, seasonal produce. The charcoal grill is the cornerstone of the kitchen, with Welsh beef and lamb getting star billing alongside a curry of the day; lasagne; and Gower Gold battered fish and chips. Time a visit for the cider festival during the last weekend of September.
