In a leafy village on the outskirts of Cardiff, this Grade II listed pub is full of traditional features, from the flagstoned snug to the exposed lime-washed walls and log fire of the lounge. The restaurant opens out onto the lovely landscaped gardens. Local brewery Brains supplies the real ales while there is also a choice of New and Old World wines. Promoting seasonal Welsh produce, the menus and daily blackboard specials could include slow-braised squid with red wine, tomato, chorizo and butterbean stew and smoked aïoli; pressed pork belly, Puy lentils, crispy pork and black pudding, crackling and apple relish. The Sunday roasts are very popular.
