Between the main building and the beer garden, a conservatory restaurant bathes in dappled light cast by the mature trees that edge this plot in one of the county's most charming villages. With beers from the likes of Adnams and 17 wines by the glass, the bar attracts a good following, and the food emerging from the kitchen takes the treat to another level. A starter of fettuccine with wild mushrooms and Parmesan might lead on to roast partridge with Jerusalem artichoke purée, wild mushrooms and caramelised shallots.
