Two minutes’ walk from the city centre, this former coaching house is popular with post-grads, locals and dog lovers alike who create a happy mood with their chatter and laughter. The interior is an eclectic mix of previously loved hand-me-downs, comfy sofas, sturdy school chairs, and an assortment of pictures and painting jostling for space on the walls. Drinkers can enjoy local ales but it seems it’s the food that draws people in. The modern menu might offer mushroom and red wine risotto with crispy leeks; and beef bourguignon, mash and curly kale.
