A beer house since 1729, this smart pub restaurant is still brewing – today they’re called Crafty Beers, such as Carpenter’s Cask and Sauvignon Blonde. Landlords Rick and Heather Hurley previously ran an award-winning restaurant in France, so expect French, Catalan, Italian and even Thai dishes on the menus. Possibilities include beef and ale pie; chestnut, cranberry and mushroom loaf; duck, pork, sausage and bean cassoulet; wild boar and apple burger with apple sauce; and tartiflette, while Sunday roasts remain decidedly English. A Suffolk white features among the world-sourced wine list.
