A pub since 1836, this popular village local on Cambridge’s northern fringe has been run by Mark Donachy for more than two decades. A dyed-in-the-wool pub man, Mark’s real ales include Oakham Bishops Farewell, as well as Pickled Pig Porker’s Snout cider. There are also over 30 different bottled beers from around the world. Expect quality pub food in a traditional environment, along side cheerful service, winter log fires and a good-sized neat garden. Typical of the specials board: steak and kidney suet pudding; and quinoa, sweet potato and black bean chilli. Fresh fish is a draw on Tuesday evenings and Wednesdays. Time a visit for the Easter or early September beer and cider festivals.
