All the right elements of an English country pub are here: the low-beamed bar, the wooden floors, the real fires, the mismatched furniture and a minimum of four real ales, including XT from Long Crendon and Fuller's London Pride. You can expect dishes such as deep-fried rabbit with carrot purée; honey-roast ham, duck egg and hand-cut chips; hand-made shortcrust pie of the day; grilled lemon sole, samphire, new potatoes and lemon caper butter sauce; and grilled goats' cheese and field mushroom with honey mustard dressing. Finish with poached clementine with passionfruit posset or spiced bread pudding and vanilla custard. There are barbecues on Saturday evenings from May to September.
