There’s no TV, jukebox or electronic games in this cottagey Chiltern Hills pub. What you get instead, surprise, surprise, is just good conversation, probably much as when it was built in the 1700s. In the bar, low beams, a big black inglenook stove, high-backed settles and lots of copper pots and pans; an alternative place to enjoy a pint of Brakspear is a seat in the garden, while admiring the woods and fields. A short, snack menu is available with pub favourites including steak and ale pie, scampi and chips and sausage, egg and chips.
