Chic pub with good food, now in new hands

Restaurant menu

Welsh drovers following Roman Ermin Street would stop at what was originally the Board House; later it became The Paraffin House, presumably a profitable sideline to beer at one time. Today, the bar serves Ramsbury Gold and Upham Punter ales, and Symonds Founders Reserve cider. Food style is evidenced by starters of king prawn raviolo with pea shoots, tarragon and celeriac; and mains of pan-fried duck breast with pressed potatoes, creamed leeks, cranberries and roasted figs; rump and sirloin steaks with mushrooms, tomato and hand-cut chips; and pumpkin tortellini with celeriac, fennel, ginger and crispy shallots. For dessert, perhaps caramel pannacotta, pineapple and amaretto biscuits.
