There's hardly another building within sight of this Brakspear pub down a bridle path, just as the asphalt turns to grass. Dog-friendly and presumably horse-friendly too, as it must have been when highwayman Dick Turpin allegedly hid his mount in the cellar. Landlord Luke wonders how, given that he can't even stand up in it. The legend explains why the menu lists a Turpin minced beef and pork burger; other options include deep-fried haloumi with sweet chilli sauce; and a special of venison lasagne with tomato and basil bruschetta. The pub cures its own bacon, makes its own sausages and sells eggs from its own chickens.
