Near the foot of a hill road over from Mull's capital, Tobermory, and yards from the pretty sea loch Loch a' Chumhainn, the island's oldest hotel can trace its roots back to 1608. Today's visitors come to experience the wildlife including white-tailed sea eagles, which may well fly overhead as a pint of Fyne Ales Avalanche is being enjoyed on the terrace in front of the inn. The chefs here take full advantage of the generous bounty from Mull's coastal waters and moors. Crab, mackerel and locally smoked haddock all feature on the menus when available, and seasonal dishes include venison and juniper casserole; and locally-sourced lamb shank, plus vegetarian options.
